At the University of Minnesota, there are additional learning tools that plug into the Canvas learning management system to provide enhanced features for teaching and learning. Depending on the class, you may be asked to submit your work in multiple ways: the most commonly used options include Canvas Assignment, VoiceThread, Kaltura Video Assignment, or Turnitin. Your instructor will likely provide more information about which option you will use.

Kaltura is a media management system that can be used to upload media files, including audio and video, and create webcam recordings. You can upload an existing video (or audio) recording or use your computer's webcam to record a new video with Kaltura.
Submit a Kaltura Audio/Video Assignment
Click the link to the assignment that requires embedding Kaltura video.
Read the instructions and then click the Start Assignment button. The Text Entry window will appear with a Rich Content Editor.
Select the Embed Kaltura Media button to open your My Media library.
Next, use one of these three options:
Record a new video
Click Add New.
Select Record Webcam in Browser.
Select the red circle (record button) on the video player when you are ready to record. A 3-second countdown occurs before the recording starts.
When you are done recording, click the white square (stop button) next to the time display.
If you need to redo your recording, select Record Again to repeat the process.
Select Use This when you are satisfied with your recording. Your media will be embedded in the Rich Content Editor while processing. You will receive a message when your video is ready.
Change the title of the video and add a description if needed.
Change the privacy settings to Published.
Select Save and Embed. Your media appears in the Rich Content Editor.
Upload a previously recorded media
Click Add New.
Select Upload New Media from the drop-down menu. A pop-up box will allow you to drag and drop a media file or choose one from your computer.
Select the media file you wish to upload.
Click Save. A green bar will appear after your file uploads.
Add a title or description you want the media to have.
Click Save and Embed. Your media will appear in the Rich Content Editor.
Select media from your Kaltura Media Library
Click Select next to the desired recording.
The Embed Kaltura Media window will close, and a medium-sized video will appear in the Rich Content Editor text box.
If you want a size other than medium, click the drop-down Select menu and choose the size you want.
After you select one of the three options, click Play to test the media.
Add any comments you want your instructor to see in the Comments text box.
Click the Submit Assignment button when you are satisfied.
Turnitin is an originality-checking and plagiarism prevention service that checks your writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying. When you submit your paper, Turnitin compares it to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.
Submit your Turnitin assignment
Assignments with Turnitin enabled may accept text or file submissions or both. After successfully submitting to Turnitin, you can download your digital receipt. The following video walks through the process.
VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slideshow that holds images, documents, and videos. You can:

VoiceThread runs inside your web browser, so there's no software to download, install, or update. However, when using your mobile device, you may need to download the VoiceThread app.Links to an external site.
Submit a Voicethread assignment
Your instructor may have you view a VoiceThread, comment on a VoiceThread, or create and submit your own VoiceThread. The following resources will help you with the process:
Click the Submit Assignment button for it to be recorded. If you forget to do this, your instructor will not be able to grade it. You may return later to submit the assignment if the assignment deadline has not passed. You may also have an option to share with the class.
