LIC Info: EPAC
Education in Pediatrics Across the Continuum (EPAC)
Program Overview
Considering EPAC?
The Education in Pediatrics Across the Continuum (EPAC) project started as an exciting pilot to test the feasibility of medical education and training that is based on the demonstration of defined outcomes rather than on time, from early in medical school through completion of residency. The pilot project started in the Fall of 2013 at four medical schools across the country: San Francisco, Utah, Colorado, and Minnesota. These schools are working in collaboration with the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). EPAC received a grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation to support the pilot project.

Educational Themes
To create a model of competency based medical education spanning the medical school to residency (UME/GME) continuum. Learners are advanced in a time variable manner based on demonstrated abilities. Assessment framework is based on the Core Entrustable Professional Activities for entering residency.
Unique Project
The EPAC LIC is the first step of the EPAC program. Students selected to participate in EPAC also commit to the University of Minnesota Pediatric Residency Program. They advance into and through pediatric residency based on documented competency. Thus only students who match into EPAC participate in the EPAC LIC.
