Week 5 Activity: Meet with Leadership
- Due Apr 5, 2020 by 11:59pm
- Points 0
In this activity, you'll meet with your institution's dean or director. If you think it would be helpful, you can also include your immediate supervisor in the meeting.
Because we know it can be challenging to book a meeting with a busy administrator, we're giving you the flexibility to schedule around their availability and hold this discussion during any of the five weeks. We recommend meeting for at least 30 minutes.
It's important to have a shared understanding of the vision for your OER program and also the scope of your role. Leading an OER program is time consuming. It can easily be a full-time job for one or more people. But it's often just one of many duties we've been assigned.
Suggested questions to ask your dean or director:
- What's your vision for our OER program?
- What resources will the institution commit to our OER program (personnel, funding for grants and/or events, travel to OER conferences, etc.)?
- How do you envision my role in our OER program? How does that fit into the scope of my current job description? What percentage of time will I be able to devote to OER or affordability programs? Is there anything that can be moved off my plate to make more time to focus on OER?
- What's the most important thing for me to accomplish in the next year?
- What would you consider measures of success for our OER program?
After you've met, put your questions in a Word document and write several paragraphs summarizing your discussion. Submit this assignment by clicking on the "Submit Assignment" button and uploading the file to Canvas.
