Module 0: Start Here
Overview
We've adapted our Fall 2019 faculty seminar into an accessible resource so that instructors developing remote teaching plans can have access to curated resources linked to course design, assignment, assessment, and learning climate in online learning spaces.
- Module 1 - teacher and learner presence in online learning spaces
- Module 2 - creating learning aims
- Module 3 - developing discussion-based assignments and assessments
- Module 4 - planning and supporting group/team assignments
If you'd like an overview of ideas about effective practices, check out the ideas noted in "Applying the Best Ten Practices of Online Teaching" on the Resources page.
On Navigating Canvas
Based on several recent usability studies, we recommend accessing Canvas via a web browser to complete most preparatory activities, rather than replying primarily on the Canvas tablet or phone app. Chrome is the common browser recommendation. Also, basic Canvas navigation among pages/resources isn't necessarily intuitive, nor are teachers' adaptations uniform. One of our adaptations is that hyperlinks will open in a new tab. More on these adaptations throughout the seminar to address our particularities.
