Module 1: Atmosphere & Presence

Aims

Participants will review aligned course design principles, focusing on "Atmosphere" as a foundation for thinking about the role of "presence" in engaging learners in an online learning space.

(3 pages), a blended resource document that brings together several resources to provide an overview and show examples of strategies UMN-base instructors have adapted for creating and cultivation presence in online courses.

  • Inclusive Teaching and Learning Online (Links to an external site.) (about 7 pages), a resource from Columbia University that identifies five key principles of inclusive teaching, along with specific strategies for each.
