Faculty Communication to Students about Proctorio
This is a sample communication that can be emailed to students, included in the syllabus, and posted on the course site or shared during a synchronous proctored exam preparation session.
The quizzes and the final exam for this course will be proctored electronically using Proctorio to ensure academic integrity for online exams so that all students are evaluated fairly. It is an online proctoring tool that records a video and sound of you, your computer screen, and your room during the quiz/exam and shares that information with your instructor.
To optimize your experience with online exam proctoring, make sure you have:
-
a computer (desktop or laptop) - mobile devices will NOT work with Proctorio
- you might need up to 2GB of free RAM depending on level of security applied. Proctorio will do a System Diagnostics test for you and provide recommendations how to increase available RAM on your computer.
-
a high-speed Internet connection that is:
- reliable: hard-wired connection is STRONGLY preferred
- dedicated: you are the only one using that specific router/modem for internet connection during the exam (if possible)
- a quiet room with good lighting that only you will be using for the duration of an exam
- a webcam (removable such as this Logitech Webcam Links to an external site.) OR built in webcam in your laptop
- a microphone
- Google Chrome web browser installed on your computer
- Proctorio extension downloaded and installed in Chrome
- Cleared your cache and deleted browsing history
- an ID card
You are required to take a practice test to check your internet connection, hardware and software. If you have any problems accessing and completing the practice test, let me know asap.
