Remember these tips for recognizing plagiarism and citing sources correctly:

  • Be honest.
  • If you use a source in your paper, be sure to cite it.
  • Write down your source when taking notes.
  • Don’t “cut and paste.” Don’t download/buy a term paper.
  • Check with your professor to make sure you are using the correct citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
  • Place all directly quoted materials in quotation marks and include a parenthetical citation.
  • Identify sources from which you paraphrase or summarize.
  • Include ALL of your sources in a bibliography.
