What is it?

Jamboard is a Google application that acts as a digital, interactive whiteboard space. Individuals can post questions, comments, or drawings anonymously onto the shared space. Instructors or moderators can organize or arrange the postings. The content is archived for later reference. Jamboards contain multiple 'pages' allowing students to respond to multiple prompts within a session.

It can be found with the other Google applications in the upper right corner of your Google home screen or at jamboard.google.com.

Why use it?

Shared message spaces such as Google Jamboard and Zoom chat have a lower barrier to participation than sharing aloud (in-person or virtually). Multiple students can participate simultaneously without interrupting others or having the spotlight turned on them; this turns the session into a learning collective and keeps all participants engaged.

Students are also able to respond to speakers or questions in real-time, rather than waiting for the opportunity to share. Instructors are able to prioritize and arrange student responses to organize ideas or content. Instructors can respond to student ideas aloud or on the Jamboard depending on the format of the session and purpose of the shared whiteboard.

How to use it?

To start a new Google Jamboard, go to jamboard.google.com. Then click on the colorful + symbol in the lower right corner.

Click on 'Untitled' to name the Google Jamboard and utilize its functions to set up prompts or instructions for students on the board.
