UMD COVID-19 Important Information
UMD COVID-19 Important Information
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected some of the ways we live and learn. UMD has important safety requirements that we have shared with your student and would like you to know as well.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
As announced by President Gabel and approved by the Board of Regents, the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement is now in effect for all enrolled students at the University of Minnesota (online and in-person). They are required to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or provide documentation for an exemption (religious or medical).
Incoming students will be required to show proof of vaccination. More information and instructions will be sent to students' UMD email addresses.
For general information about this requirement, ways to get the vaccine, etc., you can check out the Get the Vax 2.0 website and/or our Vaccine Requirement FAQ document Links to an external site.. Note that the dates specified in this document are for this fall 2021 students, but the other information is helpful.

COVID-19 Mask Requirement and Testing Recommendations
Mask/Face Covering Mandate
Beginning March 21, 2022 the University's mask mandate shifted to require masks only in certain locations. For the most up to date Mask policy, please visit this website.Find more information by reviewing the University’s Face Covering Protocol. You may find information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on mask fit and material Links to an external site., as well as information from University Health and Safety (UHS). Additionally, UHS has launched a Mask Support Program for faculty, staff and students. The program assists in selecting a high-quality mask and provides instructions for use.
COVID-19 Testing
Testing for COVID-19 continues to be a key way public health experts can identify and respond to COVID-19 cases in our community. Even though there is an effective vaccine, no vaccine is 100% effective. As a result, cases may still occur in isolated situations. Timely follow-up in those instances is important, just as it has been for many other infectious diseases on our campuses for decades. We encourage you to visit our COVID-19 Testing website to learn more.
UMD Health Services offers COVID-19 testing for students, to learn more about this, please contact them at 218-726-8155.
In addition to getting vaccinated and wearing a mask, notifying close contacts following a positive test result for COVID-19 is another important step you can take to protect our community and is the right thing to do. Learn more on the Inform website.
