Student Record and Privacy - FERPA
Student records privacy
Regents policy, federal law, and state law regulate the release of student information to third parties (including parents and guardians). University policy regulates sharing of information within the University. The federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the State of Minnesota Data Practices Act form the backdrop for the University's policies on access to student records.
Granting access to third parties
Students direct who the University can share information with. If they want to grant third-party access to information on their student record, they will need to review Parent/Guest Access or download the Student Information Release Authorization form.
