  • Current quiz access concerns.

The Canvas Quiz tool supports the creation of accessible quizzes and exams. Like all "creation" tools, care must be taken to ensure accessibility.

  • Use clear and concise language.
  • Test to make sure quizzes and responses are keyboard-only navigable and operable.
  • Avoid the use of response and quiz completion times or adjust timeouts when necessary.

Timeout Adjustments

Canvas provides a means for adjusting response and quiz completion time for individual students. Once you have published a quiz, it is possible to adjust time allowances and other details by using the "Moderate" option in the Quiz creation/editing dialog. See Once I publish a timed quiz, how can I give my students extra time? Links to an external site. for complete instructions.

Current Access Concerns

Although the Canvas Quiz tool can be used to create accessible quizzes and exams, there are some issues of which to be aware and avoid.

  • Individuals with low vision may have difficulty with matching questions.
  • The audio response tool uses a Java applet that can present access challenges to students using assistive technology.

Recommendations

  • Test your quizzes and exams using the keyboard alone to complete each question prior to publishing.
  • Use the features of the Rich Content Editor to enhance the accessibility of your questions.
