Step 2: Set Up Your Canvas Account & Work Through Canvas Basics

Instructions

Please work through the following steps:

    1. Set up your Canvas Notification Preferences in order to receive timely notifications about course activities to your email or cell phone. I highly recommend fine tuning your course level notifications Links to an external site. to stay engaged with this class using the following settings:
        • Course Activities: 
          • Due Dates. Set to immediately or daily.
          • Announcements. Set to immediately.
          • Submission Comment: Set to immediately or daily.
        • Discussions: New Reply and New Mention. Set to immediately or daily. 

    2. If you haven't already done it, check out How to add a profile picture to my Canvas Account? Links to an external site. 

    3. Bookmark the Canvas Student Guides. The guides contain all the information you need to use Canvas.  At the start, you should become familiar with how to navigate a Canvas course website, how to reply to a discussion post, and how to submit an assignment (Links to an external site.) Links to an external site..

      • Note: we'll be learning additional skills as we go along, but it is good to know where the step-by-step guides are located.
