Purpose
We have three big events this week . . .

- the Midterm Exam
- After the exam we’re going to attend some Great Gatherings in Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Peru, and the good ol’ U.S.A. And we’ll have a look along the way at how important gatherings are to people around the world, and especially ritual and religious gatherings.

- And, in addition, we brush up on the news for Malaysia and Israel, two of what Gannon and Pillai call “Cleft National Cultures".
Outcomes
Successfully reviewing the materials from the first six weeks of the semester, and having your mastery of the materials properly reflected in your performance on the Midterm Exam.
As mentioned last week, this includes . . .
Your readings, slides, and videos, and . Slide decks include the “Main Characteristics of Anthropology”, “Holism”, and “Other Important Terms” (such as ethnography and ethnology). "Units of Analysis" are important terms we will look at after the exam.
The Main Characteristics of Anthropology include: The Four Fields approach, Culture as the main concept, The Comparative Method as the major approach, Holism as a main theoretical perspective, and Fieldwork as a main methodological research tool.
