Course Activities
Throughout the course, you will be asked to review textbook chapters, videos, video clips (shorter in length than videos), and slide presentations. These resources will be fundamental in helping you understand concepts of the course so you can analyze and apply that knowledge in subsequent assessments, such as discussions, exams, and your final report and project.
For the following activities, you will be asked to:
Videos (and Films)
-Most or all weeks you will watch videos. When watching these videos, the general model (as with fieldwork) should be to observe (pure observation and description), categorize, analyze, ask questions, check observations, explain, communicate (with data-based and factual-backups). For each video or film, you will be prompted to watch and make notes. For each video you watch in the class, you will be prompted to submit an exam question in the week prior to the midterm and final exams. Taking good notes about the film and your experiences, will help you excel at writing good arguments in the discussions and questions.
Video Clips

Discussions
- Graded Course Components: Discussions
- Discussions are an opportunity to analyze and apply what you have learned in subsequent readings, slides, and when watching videos and video clips. For each discussion, there will be a rubric listing the criteria. Discussions serve as preparation for constructing argument for exams and your research project, where you will learn to design a project for different audiences.
Exams
- Graded Course Components: Exams:
- This course includes a mid-term and final exam. Exams will assess knowledge acquired through all readings, watching of video, video clip, slides, and discussions.

- A rubric outlining the criteria for exam responses will be provided with the exam.
Research Project and Term Paper
The research and term paper includes several assignments, including:
- Note: There is no rubric for the project and term paper. Students submit work and receive feedback from me/instructor at of each stage of the project. This feedback is focused on improving submissions, if warranted, and for guiding next steps of the project.
Grading Scale
In Global Cultures there are 4 main graded components. Altogether, the total points in the class will be approximately 4XX - 5XX
