Champ's Cupboard and Closet
Champ's Cupboard is a program at UMD for any student in need of shelf-stable food. Students can pick from a variety of non-perishable items including rice, pasta, soups, sauces, and vegetables. Students can also choose from toiletries such as shampoos, soaps, and diapers. All items are donated by staff, faculty, alumni, and students. No questions are asked about income or needs, however students are asked to fill out a survey to determine what should be restocked and what foods are popular.
Champ's Closet is another program at UMD that gives students a free professional business outfit for internships or job interviews. Students may pick up one outfit per semester, no questions asked. Students can pick from a variety of items including suits, shirts, jackets, skirts, ties, and shoes. The items in Champ's Closet were generously donated by maurices, Main Stream Fashions for Men, faculty and staff. All that is asked at the end of the student's visit is for them to fill out a brief form and bring their items to the Student Life front desk so that staff can record the sizes that were taken.
