Parents and Families' Partners at UMD

Parents and Families' Partners at UMD

Do you want to get involved?

At UMD we encourage our students' parents and family members to be part of our campus community. We hope that you will visit your student, and UMD Family Weekend in the Fall provides a great opportunity to do just that! If you can't make it for Family Weekend, check out "do you want to keep up with what's happening at UMD?"

Does your student need help?

There are many resources for your UMD student - we encourage students to reach out to a counselor in Health Services, and students who live on campus can talk with their RA or a member of the Housing and Residence Life staff. If your student just doesn't know where to start, encourage them to visit or call us (contact information at left). If you want to talk through your concerns about your student, please contact the Office of Student Life.

Our office also houses the UMD food shelf program called Champ's Cupboard as well as a program to provide professional and business attire to students that we call Champ's Closet.

If your student has an emergency and you want to contact the UMDPD or Duluth Police, the best way to reach them is to call 911. If you live outside of St. Louis County, call (218) 625-3581. The UMDPD "911 Frequently Asked Questions" page is a great resource. In case you and/or your student would not feel comfortable calling the police for a check-in, if your student lives on campus you may contact Housing & Residence Life for a Wellness Check. Please Note: the staff in that department will not be able to share any information with you, but it does start a conversation within the University supporters community. And of course, we can encourage your student to reach out to you as well!

Do you want to keep up with what's happening at UMD?

There are a number of great ways to find out what's happening at UMD. The Bulldog Update: Parents and Family Edition is a monthly newsletter published from August through May. The newsletter includes a guest column, profiles of UMD students, faculty, and staff, and informative articles on academics and money matters. The most popular feature of the newsletter is the important dates section!

The UMD News pages have many interesting articles and feature stories. The Important Dates - Parent Resource Calendar is part of this website. Finally, the UMD Events Calendar is a great way to stay current on all things happening at UMD!
