When I decided that I wanted to go to university, I made the decision based on what I wanted for my future. So many individuals that I know (and even some close friends) have not had the same fortune and have not gone into the decision making to go to university on the same basis. For me, choosing the right university was far more of a simpler task than it was for many other people that I know. For me, it really came down to two ideals and values. I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to be challenged to be the best that I can be.
There are so many universities out there that really do not have the adequate emphasis on supporting students not only in the classroom but outside of it as well. And many students that I know have made the decision to go to university without having done the research and have unfortunately paid the price in the years after. Fortunately for me, I can say with complete and utter certainty that this has not happened to me. I have been given every tool possible that I need to succeed and then some. And I got it all from the University of Minnesota and my time here as a full time higher education student.
Giving me the tools to succeed and even excel during my experience
Saying that you are going to support students in every possible way is one thing, however actually giving them the tools to succeed is another thing entirely. There is a lot to be said about the fact that it is more challenging than you would think to find a university that has a genuine emphasis on giving students the tools to excel not only in the classroom but outside of it as well. The University of Minnesota not only gave me all these tools but took the time and the effort to really dive into why these tools are important and why they were going to become instrumental core constructs for me not only while I was at university but as I continue to build my career there after.
Giving me the support to know which field I want to build my career in
I want to become a digital marketing professional. I know so many digital marketing professionals, whether they are SEO experts or individuals who have worked their way up from the ground up creating the ranger digital marketing company. And the University of Minnesota really did the work by giving me this access to the field I wanted to build my career in by also giving me access to these professionals and their insight. Having ways of learning not only in the classroom but outside it as well is one of the best ways for students to be able to gain a strong and genuine understanding of if they want to build a career in that industry after all. Luckily for myself, I really do want a career in this field.
Giving me the real world experience to go confidently into my career
During my time here, I have been given access to many materials, tools, courses, and outside seminars and information evenings that have allowed me to not only dive into my chosen field with eyes wide open and and excited approach come up at that have allowed me to do so with the inclination towards having real world experience before I need it. Having access to events and seminars where I can rub shoulders with professionals in my chosen field has given me real world experience that I find to be not only invaluable but some of my favourite moments throughout my time here. And for this reason (and so many others) I will always be thankful for the University of Minnesota and I will always have a special place in my heart for this wonderful place.
