When I finally made the decision to pursue higher education, I knew that doing so was going to put me in a position where I was going to be actively and consistently challenged and rewarded. Of course, the whole point of education in any capacity is to challenge and reward you, however the challenges and rewards that come hand in hand with the university experience are challenges and rewards that, quite honestly, I could not possibly have acutely imagined or planned for before I finally got here myself. So, the decision process to even choose a university in the first place was one that was important to me to get right.
Taking the time to make the right choice for me
After some thinking time, I ultimately decided that the University of Minnesota was the best fit for me. And I have not looked back since. Being a full time student can be a learning curve, of course, however for me one of the absolute best parts about being a university student is that this is an experience that continues to prove to me just how valuable it is time and again - even (and especially) during the challenging times where it feels like the experience is getting the best of me. Going to a university that is supportive in all the right ways is so important. Thankfully, the University of Minnesota is all that and more for me.
Choosing the university that felt like a second home
What it came down to for me when I ultimately chose the University of Minnesota was that I wanted to go to university at a place that genuinely felt like a home away from home. I did not want to spend four years in an environment that felt alien and not at all like somewhere that I belonged or wanted to be. I did not want to have to buy Kratom more often than usual to relax because of my environment. After a tour of the campus and some advice from family, friends, and even some friendly past students of the university, I knew this was my place. And every moment since, I have been proven right in that assertion from day one. I feel at home here and it is such a freeing feeling.
Finding my place at this university
There is of course the process of trying to find my place at this university too. It of course took some time, however I feel like it is important to note that this is an environment that at every single twist and turn has been entirely supportive and embraced each of its students as exactly who they are as individuals and not necessarily just as what they can offer the school academically. Today, I walk throughout campus with confidence and happiness, knowing that the joy that I feel is because I feel so at home here. The University of Minnesota genuinely does feel like a second home to me.
