When i was figuring out my next steps when applying for university, I knew I wanted to attend a university that really mirrored my beliefs and values. As a soon-to-be university student, I was focused on doing the legwork to make sure that the university that I attended was the right place for me to be. There is so much advice out there, and the truth is that not all of it is gold (or even worth hearing in the slightest, for that matter).
So, what type of advice is worth listening to when it comes to picking the right university for you? It all comes down to what you are passionate about not only academically, but in life, and which universities are willing and able to not only accommodate those passions, but to exceed your wildest expectations in alignment with those passions. For me, the passion in question was life experience (specifically, travel). So, I chose the University of Minnesota.
A literal world of opportunities
Here’s the thing. Of course, there are many universities that offer abroad programs, but the University of Minnesota not only offers them, but gives you the tools and support necessary to successfully find your way into the program you ultimately want to experience. University of Minnesota has so many abroad study initiatives and programs, each of them with their own distinct appeal and underlying value. I fell in love with it all, so naturally I enrolled. Now, here I am, fresh off my semester abroad and so full of excitement and zest for life and study.
The power to propel my own future forward
Studying abroad for a time gave me the chance to broaden my horizons not only academically but intellectually and even personally. I studied a successful academic semester and explored a different part of the world at the same time. This freedom of choice and limitless support is exactly what I hoped to get from my chosen university, and I have it. My friends are investing their money in ideas like the Grow Kit you see online everywhere, and while this is great, I am so grateful that University of Minnesota supports my choice to spend my money on experiences and not just long-term investments and entrepreneurship.
A place that feels like home always
University of Minnesota might not be my true home, but this is a place that truly feels like a home away from home always. Knowing that after my semester abroad, I could come back to my dorm and settle right back where I left off, gave me the added confidence boost to pursue overseas study even though it was foreign to me. This really is my home away from home, and I will always be comfortable here. This university is a supportive environment that is geared towards giving its students the best possible experience in the most exciting ways. To that end, the University of Minnesota successfully and wholly achieves its goal, and then some. I genuinely belong here, and I love it.
