Like every other soon-to-be university student, when I was sifting through my university options and figuring out which university would be the best fit for me, I found the process to be daunting, even overwhelming. There is the nerves about finally going to university to begin with, coupled with the awareness that I wanted to do everything that I possibly could to make sure that the university that I ultimately chose was the perfect fit for me. It took me months to narrow down my choices. In the end, I chose the University of Minnesota. And I haven’t looked back.
The university that feels like home away from home
Campus is a special place, too. Whether I am sitting in the library juggling several essay writing projects at the same time, or going to an event on campus, I know that I feel at home here. This is especially important to me as I moved away from home to be here. I needed a place that felt comfortable so that I could really settle in. In just about every way, the University of Minnesota has been that - and more - for me.
The university that encourages a healthy balance
The University of Minnesota of course wants its students to be academically successful, but it is also all about ensuring that the students are as healthy as possible in every way. This is a university that knows the value of hard work as well as the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle - even if that means having to drop a few courses to regain that healthy balance and overall sense of self. I found this to be one of the most appealing things about the university straight off the bat, but as it would turn out, that was just the beginning.
The university that prepares you for your career
One of the single most valuable assets that the University of Minnesota has given me over the years, is the materials and insight into my chosen industry. Why is this so valuable? Essentially, I found that the University of Minnesota has adequately prepared me for my career throughout the years since the moment I stepped foot on campus on the first day. This was achieved in several ways, but one of the most valuable was the networking events that the university set up between like-minded students as well as industry professionals.
Networking is a distinctly underrated skill. This skill is also one of the skills that the University of Minnesota values and encourages in its students most. In this way, we are able to move into our respective industries after graduation with confidence and excitement. More than anything, these industry events have given us real experience networking and learning from industry professionals - a priceless gift that has given us a genuine insight into what the industry is going to be like and what we need to continue to do to prepare to enter our respective industries. I will always be thankful for this gift (and so much more).
