I am graduating university in a matter of weeks. I cannot believe that I am finally here. I have been a full-time university student for so long now that it feels strange to know that in under a month, I will be a fresh university graduate that is taking my first steps into my chosen career field. At the time that I started my degree I had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated. I knew that I was interested in marketing, but further on from that I had no specific trajectory in mind.
I was not sure if I was going to go into advertising for companies that specialise in truck loans and truck leasing or if I wanted to work for myself as a digital marketing executive, picking and choosing my own clients. Obviously, these are just two examples of the many possible career options I could have chosen, but the point remains the same. The University of Minnesota has given me many lessons over the years, many of which I will always treasure and remember fondly, using them throughout my career. This place has it all.
The intrigue of interesting courses
The bare bones of a degree can be quite boring sometimes. However, one of my very first lecturers was a man who had such obvious passion for the advertising and marketing industry that he really drew us all in and gave us a solid understanding of what it means to study something you love. The intrigue of interesting courses has effectively and successfully pulled us all through the semesters. During this time, my own passion for advertising and marketing evolved and expanded.
The value of real world experience
As well as the obvious classes and tutorials that were compulsory aspects of my higher education experience, the University of Minnesota has given us all the means and opportunity to gain real-world experience outside of campus too. In organising or advertising networking events, the university essentially gave us all the chance to dip our toes into our chosen field, gaining valuable insight ahead of even our graduation and giving us time to rub shoulders and network with like-minded industry professionals that were paving the way for future generations (i.e. us).
The excitement for the future ahead
All in all, my time here has been an incredible part of my life. There have been massive challenges and crazy rewards and I know that I am walking away from this experience with a degree that is going to take me places that I honestly cannot wait to go. I never thought that I would miss my uni so much, however, I already know that it is going to be challenging to say goodbye to this place that has become a second home to me over the years. I know more than ever and with more certainty than I have ever had that the University of Minnesota has prepared me as well as it possibly could have for my future. I will be forever thankful.
