Heading out to college can be an extremely stressful experience, no matter how old you are or what your goal is as far as the University experience you are expecting. At the University of Minnesota, I have a tremendous number of positive experiences to report. All of these things that happened helped to alleviate a lot of my anxiety, and sharing the knowledge that I have gained feels like the right thing to do.

I can split up some of my good experiences into a few different categories. First, there were plenty of cultural activities for me to look into. Second, with logistical things, I found a lot of resources that helped me navigate the college experience there. And, I made sure to expand my comfort zone and find new ways to make friends so that I could quickly find a level of social satisfaction that has often been missing in other parts of my life. Thanks to my University of Minnesota campus experiences, I feel like I'm in a much stronger position to enjoy the classes that I have coming up.

Cultural Activities

First of all, I was curious about the local culture. Luckily for me, there were all kinds of different places for me to begin gathering resources about what to expect. This was going to be my freshman year, so moving away from home created all the types of feelings that you would expect. I didn't know whether I would be lonely, I didn't know how difficult things were going to be, and I didn't know how to figure out how to get around campus and the surrounding areas. Luckily, every person that I talked to in every resource I looked into had excellent information about all the things that I needed.

Finding Healthcare Options

One thing that can be stressful about moving into a new area with new job availability is the fact that you need to find health care. I wasn't sure how to do this through the University of Minnesota, so I made sure to check into all of the different kinds of advertisements that were available. Getting healthcare through the Affordable Care Act Seemed like a reasonable way to go, but I also had other options through various public and private opportunities. I did notice that different health care options were advertised differently, so I made sure to follow the information that seemed like it was mostly legit.

Ways To Make Friends

It can be challenging to make friends in a new place. I have to say that my experience at the University of Minnesota was amazing. I found people that were roughly my age but had vastly different backgrounds, and that immediately makes the college experience that much more diverse in terms of expectations and realization of what makes us all similar.
