J’adore Dior. Christian Dior or more commonly known as Dior, is a luxury powerhouse founded in 1946. It started with its “New Look” collection that was inspired after France’s liberation from Nazi occupation. After more than 70 years, Dior has evolved into a coveted luxury brand that caters to men, women, and even babies. Currently, Dior has been courting a powerful and influential generation of consumers - the millennials. The ultra-rich millennials have been driving the luxury industry due to the social media boom. Right now, the millennials turn to branded luxury streetwear as their new status symbol. With this trend, Dior Homme’s creative director, Kim Jones, collaborated with New York-based pop artist, KAWS, to release a men’s capsule collection. This is a milestone since this is his first streetwear release under the Dior house coming from a super successful Supreme x Louis Vuitton launch.
The limited capsule collection has KAWS’ reinterpretation of the Dior Homme signature bee and contains streetwear must-haves such as hooded zip-up jackets, crewneck shirts, baseball caps, belt bags, and sneakers. This collaborated collection debuted in Spring/Summer 2019.
The Dior B23 high top KAWS x Kim Jones sneakers are one of the most anticipated items from the collection. The sneaker top has the black & white Dior oblique motif with see-through paneling and zigzagging seams. The bottom sides have a black line contrasting with the cream-colored top sole with the new DIOR signature stamped on it. The rubber outsole is beige and white with the Dior Homme bee signature stamped at the bottom sole. The color and design can be easily paired for daily wear. Even though the release is late in the luxury streetwear game, the sneakers are exciting for the fans of the brand and the artist.
Before the launch, fans from Dong Da, Hanoi were excited to cop the sneakers since it made the rounds on Instagram and noted luxury streetwear websites such as Giày Gucci or Mcqueen sneakers. However, as exciting as this sneaker was marketed, customers who bought this from HumbleandRich.com were generally unsatisfied. Here Shopgiayreplica 161 Chua Lang show you the pro and cons of Giày Dior:
PRO of Dior Sneaker
1.) Well-made construction
The Dior B23 high top sneakers have a welded, side-sewn construction that makes it last for a long time.
1.) Nothing special design-wise
Even though the shoe is generously peppered with enough Dior logo to last a lifetime, it doesn’t have enough artistic elements that mirror the work of KAWS. It comes off as a regular shoe with a Dior motif and stamp on the shoes.
2.) Overpriced for a relatively uncreative pair of sneakers
One Youtube reviewer felt that the materials used are not that expensive to create a $1,100 sneaker even with a branding margin. Other reviewers felt it was a Converse sneaker that was slapped with a Dior logo and a jacked-up price. The dangerous mix of not meeting the creative expectations while tagging a hefty price is enough to make the new owner feel a tad bit cheated.
3.) There are far better kicks with the same price point
2019’s best-selling luxury sneakers list includes Tom Ford’s Jago sneakers for only $990, Gucci Rhyton leather sneakers for $890, and Off-White’s over the top Moto Wrap sneakers priced at around $600. Dior B23 high top KAWS x Kim Jones sneakers might be pricier than the shoes mentioned, but the design is not on par with them.
4.) Not built for performance, only for show
Even though the construction and sewing of the shoes might be well made, some new owners felt that the materials for sneaker tops were a little fragile for everyday use. The transparent paneling can be ripped or stained and can be difficult to repair after. Even with a microfiber lining, it is not as super comfortable as you’d expect for a shoe with that price point.
The KAWS x Kim Jones capsule collection had a lot of other interesting pieces that reflect the exciting tandem of Dior and KAWS. Based on the HumbleandRich.com reviews though, the Dior B23 KAWS x Kim Jones sneakers didn’t pan out well with the buyers mainly due to quality. Even with the Dior and KAWS branding, customers still want a quality product that can justify the hefty price point for a pair of shoes.
