Assignments and Exams
Course readings and video
While these are ungraded assignments, you are expected to read and review these course materials.
Online reading quizzes
Quizzes will consist of 5 to 10 questions. The quiz due dates are announced in the course calendar. Quizzes must be completed by 11:55 pm on the due date. You may retake each quiz ONCE in order to improve your score. Because questions will be pulled from a question pool, your questions on your second attempt may not be exactly the same as those on your first attempt. However, your highest score will be recorded as your final grade, so it is to your advantage to make both attempts. You CANNOT collaborate with other students on quizzes or exams. You may, however, use any of the material provided in the course.
Discussions
Discussions allow us to exchange insights and viewpoints throughout the course, just as ideas would be discussed in a face-to-face class. These are designed to help students learn, remember, critically analyze, and apply the course material. The goal is that these are informative, but also challenging, interesting, and enjoyable. For discussion forums, you are required to post your own response to the question as well as respond to at least one other student’s post. For some of the assignments you are assigned to smaller group to facilitate a sense of community
Peer reviews
Students will be assigned a peer review partner. To ensure sufficient time for review and subsequent edits, submit your assignment in the timeframe indicated.
Written assignments
A Day in the Life Assignment
This assignment will help you to understand the history of daily lives during Ancient Egypt and some of the most famous figures. This assignment can be used as a basis for your final assignment paper. You will obtain and review 4-7 articles about the life in Ancient Egypt and put them in your paper also. This will be in the addition of reading the pages that I have already made in this Canvas course. Typically one or two paragraphs set up the review (topic background, why it is important); the next paragraphs describe the life of Ancient Egypt (brief description of each study’s methods and significant findings); the final paragraphs synthesize the knowledge gained from the articles reviewed (plus limitations or gaps). In the last paragraph make sure you tie which time period you would want to live in. The assignment should be 350 to 500 words.
Ancient Egypt: Bringing it All Together Assignment
The major assignment is a final paper for you to talk about what you have learned throughout this course and to further think about topics and answer the questions that have been listed in the assignment page. While you may choose a separate question from that which you picked before, it will be in your best interest to talk about the one you are most comfortable with for this assignment. As we would like this assignment to have application for you outside of this course, you will be preparing a outline for the paper.
To keep you on pace, a couple of mini-assignments related to the paper will be due throughout the semester.
