Accommodations & Accessibility
As you engage in the process of reviewing course assessments, consider how to best serve students with disabilities in your courses.
Here are a few guidelines and resources to support you in providing appropriate accommodations:
- Connect with students to explore their access needs and what accommodations they may need in the new environment.
- Encourage students with disabilities to contact their access consultant if different accommodations may be needed.
- For students who have DRC accommodation letters, the access consultant listed on the accommodation letter can be a resource regarding specific accommodations.
- Think about what is reasonable with regard to accommodations for online assessment.
- Allow additional flexibility on assignment deadlines and time limits.
- Use several assessment strategies to get more accurate information about student learning.
Being pro-active, planning, and designing course assessments for accessibility from the beginning is key to reducing barriers for students with disabilities.
