Next Steps (Essential)

Congratulations! You've made it through the Open Education Network's training. We hope you feel more prepared to host conversations and workshops about open education on your campus. Thank you for being a champion for open education on your campus!

If you want to host a workshop

If you are ready to host a workshop, you will want to reach out to the OEN administrator at your consortia. Together, you'll need to:

  • Set up a workshop registration page,
  • Set the due date for reviews,
  • Identify the person faculty should contact if they have questions,
  • Clarify what incentives will be available to faculty that attend the workshop and complete a review.

With those pieces in place, you are ready to customize your slide deck and host a great workshop. If you need help, the OEN has a slew of materials to support you -- see the Additional Resources section of this training.

Final words

Before we wrap up, we want to remind you of a few keys things:

  1. Keep going! Building an open education program is hard work and takes time. There will be times when you hit a wall. That's okay. That is the time to step back, look at another strategy, and try again.
  2. You are not alone. You might be the only person on your campus working on open education (right now). You might have a lot on your plate and you don't see how you are going to connect with faculty. Remember, you are not alone. Share your frustrations - with your local open education community, and with the larger community of which you are a part.
  3. Celebrate your small wins! OEN member Ariana Santiago (Univ. of Houston) blogged Links to an external site.about the importance of small wins. She says, "I think small wins can be harder to articulate than the big ones. They’re things that don’t always get recognition, that others may not see happening, and that you may not even notice yourself. Small wins can have a tangible outcome, but they can also be small actions or attitudes that contribute to yours and others’ success." We couldn't agree more! We encourage you to celebrate the steps, however small, you are making to make education more affordable, accessible, and equitable through open education.

Good luck and thank you for all you are doing for your students and faculty. We look forward to working with you to support open education!
