Professional Development Opportunities for You

As a member of the OEN community, there are a number of different opportunities available to you to help grow your skills, expand your professional network, and contribute to the work of the OEN. Calls for participation and event announcements are communicated to members via the Google Group.

Opportunities to Serve

Steering Committee

Our Steering Committee is comprised of OEN members from a variety of institutions and consortia, and serve two-year terms. The Steering Committee meets monthly to offer the OEN leadership team guidance and feedback concerning organizational direction, finances, new programming, and more.

Publishing Advisory Group

The Publishing Advisory Group is responsible for developing open textbook publishing vision and support for the Open Education Network community.

Pub101 Committee

The Pub101 Committee ensures a community-driven experience for Pub101, a curriculum and orientation to open textbook publishing.

Event Planning Committee

The Event Planning Committee collaborates with OEN staff to create and deliver a virtual event schedule that facilitates connections between community members and supports their work.

Ad Hoc Committees & Groups

As a member-driven organization, we offer you ongoing opportunities to serve on ad hoc and standing committees and groups, including pilot groups. These committees are an opportunity to shape OEN initiatives, ensuring that our actions best represent the needs and integrate the voices of our community members. 

Consider Participating

Certificate in Open Education Librarianship 

This is a cohort-based, seven-month professional development program for librarians that offers formal training, a community of peers, and expert instructors to build sustainable open education initiatives on higher education campuses. The call for applications is typically announced in October. Add your name to the interest list Links to an external site. to be notified when applications open.

Colleague Connector Program

The Colleague Connector Program pairs OEN members who have similar goals and/or face similar challenges, as an opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas, expand their professional network, and support one another in their open education work. The application process is announced annually via the Google Group in early summer for participation in the following academic year's cohort.

Nourishing Inter-Consortial Collaborative Excellence (NICE) Forum

The NICE Forum is an opportunity for consortial and statewide system leaders to connect with one another about best practices. Monthly drop-in meetings are a space to explore ideas, share experiences and ask questions about how to best scale and sustain open education initiatives at the consortial level. You're Invited 

OEN Engage!

Held annually in July, this virtual weeklong gathering offers opportunities to connect with fellow OEN members, training on plug-and-play resources to support your work, and a comprehensive look at how to get the most from membership. Register here to join the 2024 event, happening from July 22-26!

Tea Time

Tea time is a monthly get together for you to chat about publishing with colleagues who have faced similar challenges. Each session involves a facilitated conversation around a relevant topic, with time for questions and stories during "tea and sympathy." Topics, times and dates can be found under the Events tab of the Community Hub.

Other Events

The OEN hosts a number of additional virtual events, including member-led webinars and Community Conversations on a wide range of topics identified as relevant by our community. Upcoming event details are posted under the Events tab of the Community Hub.
