Anderson - Pulmonary Blood Flow

Session Objectives:

1. Contrast the systemic and pulmonary circulations with regards to pressures, resistance to blood flow, and response to hypoxia.
2. Describe the roles of distention and recruitment of pulmonary vessels in changing pulmonary blood flow and pulmonary vascular resistance.
3. Describe the relationship between lung volume and pulmonary vascular resistance.
4. Define zones 1, 2, and 3 in the lung, with respect to pulmonary vascular pressures and alveolar pressure.
5. Describe the effects of (a) nitric oxide and (b) hypoxia on pulmonary vascular resistance.
6. Describe the consequence of local hypoxia on the distribution of pulmonary blood flow.
