Anderson - Pulmonary Blood Flow
Instructor(s): Lisa Anderson
Session Objectives:
- Contrast the systemic and pulmonary circulations with regards to pressures, resistance to blood flow, and response to hypoxia.
- Describe the roles of distention and recruitment of pulmonary vessels in changing pulmonary blood flow and pulmonary vascular resistance.
- Describe the relationship between lung volume and pulmonary vascular resistance.
- Define zones 1, 2, and 3 in the lung, with respect to pulmonary vascular pressures and alveolar pressure.
- Describe the effects of (a) nitric oxide and (b) hypoxia on pulmonary vascular resistance.
- Describe the consequence of local hypoxia on the distribution of pulmonary blood flow.
