Cao - Autonomic Pharmacology of the Respiratory System

Session Objectives:
- After this lecture, students should be able to describe and draw the autonomic innervation of the lung, including neurotransmitters and receptors.
- After this lecture, students should be able to identify autonomic agents affecting respiration, particularly in conditions of asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease. Furthermore, students should be able to define the action of these autonomic agents including their effect on airflow/resistance and specific receptors.
- After this lecture, students should be able to identify and describe the respiratory actions of drugs with profound respiratory side effects, such as beta adrenergic blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and anticholinesterases.
