Massive COVID-19 surges sends China into lockdown:

Recent increases in COVID-19 cases throughout China has sent the state into lockdown. Shenzhen, a city of 17.5 million would be the largest city to be locked down due to China’s “Zero COVID-19 Policy”. Shenzhen is not just any city in China. If you hop online and purchase something produced in China, there is a 50/50 chance it came from the city of Shenzhen, hosting half of all Chinese online exporters. This of course causes a disruption in not only the international supply chain, but also international investment. With the lockdown, there has been a 28.5% increase in the number of shipping vessels waiting outside major ports. International investment is also impacted. Due to its “Zero COVID-19 Policy”, investors have decided to diversify in other Southeast Asian markets to avoid the impacts of these swift lockdowns.

Russo-Ukrainian War- U.S says China will be sanctioned if they decide to provide assistance to Russia:

Unknown U.S officials state that China has expressed willingness to provide support to the stalling Russian invasion of Ukraine. This support, both military and economic, could provide Russia a backdoor from the West’s suffocating sanctions. This possible lifeline to Russia has been met with firm discouragement from U.S officials, stating that the U.S would be ready to impose strict sanctions on China. Of course, China and Russian spokesmen both denied this claim. However, it should be noted that prior to the Winter Olympics in Beijing Putin and Xi announced an alliance “with no limits”.

International Women's Day in China:

With International Women's Day taking place last week, Chinese Women took to the streets using art as their medium for protest. Gender discrimination is rampant in the Asian state, particularly on college campuses. In male dominated majors, such as policing and aviation some men have created a parody of International Women’s Day. Dubbed “Girls Day” and taking place a day before the real holiday, some use it as an opportunity to fetishize or insult their female classmates. In response, Women made banners and art the next day, posting it around cities with slogans such as “Girls Help Girls” and messages supporting female classmates.
