$6,000,000 Raised in Charity to Tackle Climate Crisis in India
India’s population has been booming and this has caused them to contribute the third most carbon emissions in the world. They only receive 5% of the annual global charity to manage these effects of pollution. This means that out of $1.1 Billion they only receive $55 Million of the global fund. Recently they have received a bonus of an extra $6 Million which is great news for India for managing pollution.
India Sees Lowest daily Covid Cases since April 2020
For the first time in nearly 2 years Covid cases in India are starting to settle. There was a reported less than 2,000 coronavirus cases over a 24-hour span. There were a reported 1,761 cases and the total active cases is now just over 26,000 for the country. There have only been a reported 127 deaths since Saturday and these numbers have been on the weekly decline. With more vaccines being distributed the death rate for India is now at 1.2%. With more distributions of the vaccine India is aiming to be 70% vaccinated in the near future.
India, Japan seek Immediate End to Violence in Ukraine
India and Japan have recently outlined their position on the Russia/Ukraine crisis in a joint statement issued at the annual summit. This statement was issued by Prime Minister Naredra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida. This statement expressed how the crisis is a serious concern and is a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. They are looking to help end violence and return to a path of dialogue and diplomacy. Both leaders agreed to look for a peaceful path and to end the violence. Shringla mentioned that while Japan has distributed $100 million for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, India has supplied 90 tonnes of aid. The aid includes medicines and blankets for those affected by the conflict.
Hijab Ban in Classrooms
There has been a new plea filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday that challenged the Karnataka high court verdict which dismissed the petitions seeking permission to wear a hijab inside the classroom. It said that a hijab is not an essential part of religious practice in the Islamic faith. It was argued that the girls that wore these hijabs covering themselves was no threat to public order. It said that this government order would impact young girls minds forever and would invade the freedoms they should have. On the other side, the apex court had a case that stated wearing a hijab is not a part of essential religious practice in Islamic faith under Article 25 of the Constitution.
