●Brazil is experiencing the highest inflation in 19 years. Many consumers are struggling to get affordable groceries and are being forced to find alternative ways of getting food such as buying near expired food. The inflation is mainly caused by the rising fuel prices.
●The Brazilian gold rush is destroying the Amazon Forest. Illegal gold mining is soaring to record highs in Brazil’s indigenous reservation lands. Gold mining is causing an increase in malaria and other infectious diseases to the indigenous people. It is also increasing the deforestation of the world famous Amazon Forest. Deforestation is occurring at an alarming rate.
●Brazil’s central bank’s employees are on strike. They are demanding an increase in wages. The inflation is causing instability in Pix insta payment. Pix insta payment is a popular payment in Brazil that allows consumers to immediately transfer money with no fees. Right as the strike occurred the head of the central bank went to Miami on vacation delaying a reaction from the bank.
●Brazil has invited the EU to monitor its upcoming election. President Jair Bolsonaro made comments on the validity of the electronic voting system putting fear into the minds of the citizens that he may reject the final results such as former President Trump did after Biden won. The EU is the European Union and their job is to amplify the transparency of the election and help with a smooth transition between presidents.
