“Emmanuel Macron Walks a Fine Line on Ukraine”

With the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, French President, Emmanuel Macron wants to somehow de-escalate this situation between the two countries. France is still a part of the organization, NATO, but Macron wants to show Europe his leadership and ambition to work through this conflict with Russian and Ukraine.

      • Macron went to speak with Russian President, Vladimir Putin on how to come across this situation in a better way. He later went to speak with Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. Macron is hoping by doing this, he can win the re-election coming up this April.

      • Emmanuel Macron wants to de-escalate this situation between Russia and Ukraine, but still wants to show his support for NATO. According to The New York Times, Macron wants to “avoid giving the United States cause to doubt his commitment to NATO.” France rejoined NATO back in 2009. With Macron talking with Vladimir Putin, this might rub the United States in the wrong way.

      • Macron feels that by talking with Russia, Europe will change and be better overall. Macron and Putin both agree that the security architecture since post-Cold War needs a new makeover.
