The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was created to provide a comprehensive and uniform approach to guiding how government, the private sector, and others work together to protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the effects of incidents.

Part 1: Initial Post

  1. What function does your organization provide in a public emergency and disaster? What function or resources could it provide if needed?
  2. What are the advantages and disadvantages to private businesses being involved with public emergencies?
  3. Provide an example where your organization applies the incident command system (ICS) and why.  If not, where could the ICS principles apply?
