Student access to Word
Word on Students' Personal Devices
Word is available as part of Microsoft Office, and current students can follow these directions for installing Microsoft Office. If you have questions with installing the software ask at the IT Helpdesk (250 Briggs Library).
Note that you may not have access to all of Word's features when using a tablet or Chromebook, so if you need to use Word in a class you should install the full version on your own computer, or use the version available on the computers in the campus computer labs.
Google docs has improved in recent years, but is still not as fully featured as Word, so should not be used when a class instructor is using Word.
Word on Campus Computers
Word is available on all the computers on campus. If you need to use Word for a class, you can always access it on one of the computers in any of the computer labs on campus.
Can You Use Word After Graduation?
Microsoft Office is a paid program, however the majority of the skills you learn in Word will translate directly to other spreadsheet software, two very common options are:
- Google Sheets (not quite as fully featured as Excel) (link to Google Sheets Essential Training)
- link to LibreOffice
