Assessing Learning
Overview
The Canvas grade book can allow instructors to easily store and calculate grades within a course. For students, instructors using the Canvas grade book can serve as a valuable communication tool between instructor and student.
The Grades feature of Canvas includes a feature called SpeedGrader. SpeedGrader allows instructors to easily view assignment submissions from students, use rubrics or a simple point scale to grade those assignments and leave feedback on assignments. Feedback can be left as text, and also as an audio message, or video, through the use of a webcam.
The grades feature could be used in conjunction with various analytics options available within Canvas.
Analytics
Canvas analytics can be accessed at a program or a course level. At a course level, instructors can use data such as activity by date, submission timeliness, grades and student participation to track and assess what students are doing in a course. Student Context Card Analytics
Student Context Cards within Canvas allow for additional context about a student’s performance beyond that of a grade. The card is an overview of progress, generated by grades but also pages view and participation. Clicking on the student’s name in the grade book gives the instructor a quick visual overview of the student’s course progress. Read more about Student Context Cards Links to an external site..
