Service Learning Reflection Essays (turn in here!)

Reflection paper

You will write a reflection on your service learning experience. It is best to do this shortly after your experience so that you don’t forget important details. Reflections should be 3-4 pages long (1.5” spacing, 1” margins, Times New Roman, 12 pt font).

Reflections should be uploaded to Moodle within two weeks of completing your service activity.

For your reflection, I want to know exactly what you learned, how you learned it, and how you will use this learning in the future. Specifically, you need to include the following pieces of information:

WHAT?

Describe your experience

Where was I? Who else was there? When did this experience take place? What was said?

What did I/others do? Be specific.

SO WHAT?

What did you learn from this activity/experience?

Did you learn a new skill or clarify an interest? How is your experience different from what you expected? What impacts the way you view the situation/experience? (What lens are you viewing from?) What did you like/dislike about the experience? What did you learn about the people/community?

NOW WHAT?

How did this activity/experience affect you? Did it create a change in you? Why? If not, why do you think that is?

What seems to be the root causes of the issue addressed? What other work is currently happening to address the issue? How can you apply what you learned from this experience to other aspects of your life? What would you like to learn more about, related to this project or issue?
