Team Project
- Due No Due Date
- Points 0
You are assigned to a team to work on a collaborative design project. You have two design projects to choose from:
- Inclusive Toy Design - design a toy that promotes two-handed play for children who have extraordinary needs
- Micro Hydro Testing Set Up - design an in pipe micro hydro turbine blade to generate electricity at the Hartley Pond Dam
All components of the project are due for your overall grade for this project.
For the Team Project - you need to turn in seven things as a team.
- Team Roles, Project Selection, and Tasks and Timeline with Responsibilities assigned (10 points)
- Statement of Design Intent (35 points)
- Image of your design (in pdf or jpg form) (25 points)
- A weblink to a shared folder with the CAD assembly and part models for your design (25 points)
- A spreadsheet Bill of Materials that will function as a purchase list for buying the materials needed to prototype your design if selected. (25 points)
- End User Safety Considerations statement (25 points)
- Contribution Statement (10 points)
For the Team Project - you need to turn in two things as an individual.
- Peer Evaluation (35 points)
- Design Critique Survey for All Team's Designs (10 points)
In the Statement of Design Intent you need to explain in one page or less:
-what is the purpose of your design
-how does your design solve the client's need (this can be the end user of the device or the organization that might use this device)?
-why your design works better than what the client is already using
-how does the device function?
-why did you choose specific materials for this need and function?
-why did you choose specific architecture (shape and geometry) for this need and function?
Consider using this type of statement as the guidance for your design of intent document:
Because [gap and its negative impact], we intend to change [summary of current state] to [summary of preferred state] for [affected people] so they can [statement of intended benefits]. We will do this by [statement of approach].

If your team's Final Design is chosen for prototyping you will get 10% additional points (up to 20 points) added to your Team Project final score.
