News: Thailand and Japan
Matthew F.
For this weeks in the news report, Thailand and Japan were two countries that I found interesting.
The first point I found interesting in Thailand is that logging and erosion is such an ongoing issue. The Hill Tribes are causing this ongoing issue, and the Government is trying to curve the practice of logging because it is causing mudslides and killing people who live in the villages below.
The second interesting point I discovered in Thailand is that the country itself is divided into its own regions. Bangkok one of the largest cities in the world, which is one of these "Regions".
The first interesting point I discovered in Japan is about the horrible 9.0 earthquake that struck on March 11, 2011. This was then followed by a massive tsunami that ended up wiping out many towns and leaving a very destructive path.
The second interesting point I found out about Japan is that there are two types of "Gardens" the wet or the landscape (Tsukiyama ) and the dry and religious (Karesansui). This is designed to create a sense of integration between the person and nature.

The Thai Smile? maybe not so much after a new spike of COVID-19 cases in Thailand within the past week. The country is pushing vaccines and booster shots to their population to help the county stay towards the bottom of the list when it comes to most cases.
Looking into Japan, There has been a new protocol that has been put int action regarding foreign residences to enter the country. It was made a rule that newcomers must quarantine in the airport and receive immediate testing before entering. This ruling was overheard by the prime minister and denied after much confusion and criticism. A reporter from WHOs Health Emergency Program asked the question, "Does the virus know your nationality or where you are legally a resident? (Micheal Ryan).
